A Quedgeley-based IT firm has recently put every member of their staff through QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First-Aid at Work (RFQ) (Including Management of Catastrophic Bleeding) training.
System Force IT, who provide IT support to businesses across Gloucestershire and the UK.
Company director Jez Walton (42) explained,
‘My staff spend a lot of time off site and I wanted to ensure that if an incident happened, at any point of the day, be it on the journey to the client’s site or whilst they were there, they were prepared and qualified to offer first-aid. We have also equipped all of our vans with basic first-aid equipment.’
‘We see this as a huge benefit not just to our staff, or to us as a company but to our clients as well. They can rest assured that when they hire System Force IT they have a qualified first-aider on site. Recently a number of our staff completed a Health and Safety ‘Risk Assessment’ and ‘Working at Heights’ course and, in the coming months, some will attend further safety courses, again geared towards making our staff more aware of potential dangers and the ability to deal with problems should they arise.’
Oli Morgan (24) an engineer with System Force who underwent the first-aid training said,
‘It was a really good course, very informative and totally relevant to situations I might come across every day at work. It will also be really useful for me outside of work too; I help out with the Juniors team at Berry Hill Rugby Club in the Forest of Dean and although I hope I never have to use my training, I now feel confident that I’d be able to help out in an emergency.’
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said,
‘We’d like to congratulate Jez and his staff at System Force IT on becoming qualified first-aiders. Every second counts when someone is in cardiac arrest and bystander CPR increases the chance of survival by up to three times. Any help first-aiders can give to patients before the emergency services arrive could save someone’s life. Studies have proven that the sooner a patient receives any kind of help after an accident, the better their chances of survival. We would also recommend calling 999 in an emergency situation, so that our Control Hub staff can talk through any procedures with those on site. We hope more businesses will follow this example and train all their staff to become qualified first aiders.’
