We Are Your IT Department: What We Are Prioritising in 2026

Most of the businesses we look after do not have an IT department. They have someone who is good with computers, a drawer full of subscriptions nobody quite remembers signing up for, and a quiet worry that something important is being missed.

That worry is fair, because the people who do have IT departments are busy this year. New research into how UK IT leaders are spending, saving and prioritising in 2026 reads like a to-do list, and it happens to be the same to-do list we work through for you. Because that is the point of System Force IT: we are your IT department.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • No one whose actual job is your technology and security?
  • Not sure whether you are paying for software you barely use?
  • Cyber keeps making the news and you are not certain you are covered?

If so, 2026 is the year to have an IT department, without hiring one.

What the businesses with big IT budgets are doing

The headline from the research is simple: spend is up, but it is being spent deliberately.

  • Budgets are rising. In Computing’s 2026 research, around half of UK IT leaders said their budget had grown in real terms over the past year.
  • Cyber comes first. Separate 2026 research from KPMG found 57% of UK organisations plan to raise their cyber security budget by more than 10%.
  • Waste is under the microscope. The same studies show most leaders worried about rising AI subscription costs, roughly half admitting they overspend on software licences, and clearing out old, creaking technology near the top of the list.

Spend more, but spend it on purpose. That is exactly what a good IT department does with your money, and it is what we do with yours.

How we spend your budget: cyber first, on purpose

We put your money where the risk actually is, the same way those IT leaders are. That means the unglamorous, effective basics done properly: multi-factor authentication, tested backups, patching that genuinely happens, and a clear route to Cyber Essentials. We are Cyber Essentials Practitioners and UKAS ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certified, so the standard we hold ourselves to is the standard we bring to you. Not sure where you stand today? Our free Cyber Security Score is a two-minute place to start.

We train your people, too

The research is clear that the biggest risk is rarely the technology, it is a busy person clicking the wrong email on a busy morning. So as your IT department we look after the human side as well. Every client can switch on free security awareness and data protection training through ClearSignal Academy, our own platform, and each pass earns a certificate you can verify, so you can prove it was done. We are also adding realistic, safe phishing simulation, so your team can practise spotting the real thing in a place where a wrong click costs nothing. Ask your account manager to turn on training, and we will tell you the moment simulation is ready for you.

How we save you money: the waste they are worried about

This is the half most owners never get to, because nobody has the time. We do. We go through the software licences and ask who actually uses them. We look at the AI and cloud subscriptions quietly stacking up each month. We flag the ageing kit that is costing you in slow days and near-misses rather than on an invoice. Then we tell you plainly what to keep, what to drop, and what to fix first. If you want to see how the sums work, our downtime cost calculator and pricing estimator are both free and honest about the numbers.

An IT department, without the payroll

Here is the part that makes it work for a smaller business. You get the priorities the big teams have, without the headcount, the recruitment or the salaries. One team who knows your setup, a fixed monthly cost, and someone to phone when it matters. We have supported UK businesses since 2006, and what a managed IT department actually covers is broader than most people expect. Which would your business feel the most: fewer nasty surprises, a smaller software bill, or simply knowing cyber is handled?

What a good IT department would do this quarter

If you did nothing else before the year turns, do these five. Better still, we will do them with you.

  1. List every software subscription, and who genuinely uses each one.
  2. Confirm multi-factor authentication is on your email, and that your backups have actually been tested.
  3. Run a Cyber Essentials gap check.
  4. Note your three oldest pieces of kit, and what they would cost you if they failed on a Monday morning.
  5. Have one honest conversation about next year’s IT budget before it is set for you.

Prefer to talk to a human before any of it? That is rather the whole point of having an IT department you can phone. Book a free IT review, meet the team who would look after you, or call us on 01452 701355. We would be glad to be your IT department.
